Linux auf einem Asus S8600
installiertes Betriebssystem: Debian/GNU-Linux Sid

Das Asus S8200/8600 ist ein sehr gut unter Linux arbeitendes Notebook. Leider habe ich bis zum heutigen Tag noch Probleme das Modem zum laufen zu bringen. Auch DVDs schauen gelingt mir leider nur unter Windows.
Zum Lieferumfang gehören sowohl eine Notebook-Tasche, als auch eine USB-Maus!!!
Es gibt ein Tool mit dem Namen lanoche. Die Ausgabe dieses Tools gibt es

Ich hatte keinerlei Probleme mit dem Grafikchip. Der Silicon-Motion Chip wurde von XFree 3.3.6 unterstützt und wieder seit Version 4.0.2. Version 3.3.6 habe ich nie getestet, da 4.0.2 und die darauffolgenden Versionen ohne Probleme liefen.
Mein XF86Config-4 gibt es hier. Obwohl die Lynx Chipsätze sogar von Silicon Motion selber supported werden, bin ich leider nicht in der Lage DVDs zu schauen. Vielleicht liegt dies auch an einer Miskonfiguration :((
Audio
Seit Version 2.4.2 gibt es einen Maestro Treiber im Kernel. Vorher war es nötig die Alsa-Sourcen zu installieren.
Tastatur und Touchpad
Natürlich gab es keine Probleme mit der Tastatur. Es
Of course there are no problems setting up the keyboard. You have to play a little bit around to get the four additional function keys to work. The touchpad is recognized as a PS/2 mouse and so it works either, although I was not able getting the third and fourth button to work.
Network
No problem. Just use the module rtl8139 in kernel 2.2.x and 8139too or 2.4.x
Modem
There is a module for the 2.2.x kernel-series, but I haven't tried it, yet. A couple of days ago I've downloaded a driver for kernel 2.4.7. It compiled, but gave me some undefined references. It should work, but it is not working for me, yet. Drivers for all recent kernel versions (2.2.x, 2.4.x) are available here.
Other stuff...
USB works, IrDA even in FIR-mode. PCMCIA works as well. I will give further information on setting up the hardware, when I will have time do do so. Until that don't hesitate to contact me.
